Yes, This Is the Time For Personal Growth!

profile4.jpg

Personal growth means and will mean different things to different people. In general, personal growth, cand be described by which a person continually develops the self-improvement of their skills, acknowledges their full potential and personal qualities, life goals, and maturity, success, and happiness.

Personal growth is an ongoing process that can start at an early age and is usually influenced by family and our environment. To make the most of it, you need to acknowledge what it is, become aware of the process, and take steps to grow and improve yourself.

Sometimes, problems and difficulties provoke the desire to grow and lead to making changes in one’s life. At other times, people take steps toward personal growth after reading an inspiring book, about people who achieved success or watching a movie. Some of the most successful people take time out of their busy schedules, coming out of their comfort zones to unleash their inner potential.

So, what does personal growth mean to you? Personal growth can help grow emotionally and mentally and become a more considerate, loving, and positive person. One’s description of Personal growth is a process of physical, social, and spiritual growth that will last a lifetime. Or is personal growth a process of active learning and developing new skills long after completing formal education? Remember that every path to personal growth and development is an individual’s life’s journey. It is up to you to decide what way to take and where that path will lead. Here are some ideas that help clarify what is personal growth.

  • Learning to control anger
  • Learning to overcome procrastination
  • Learning to overcome laziness
  • Learning to be more polite and considerate
  • Becoming a more responsible person
  • Learning new things and developing new skills
  • Changing your mindset and becoming more positive

What is the process of Self-growth and development?

There is no universal strategy for personal growth and development, as each person is an individual. There are many techniques, such as creative visualization, repeating affirmations,  developing a positive mindset, and meditation. Personal growth can include counseling, coaching, and reading.

A useful and straightforward method for personal growth is to look at your behavior and your life with an open and unbiased mind. It will show you what changes you need to make in yourself and your life.

The beauty of personal growth is that the possibilities are endless. As you continue to grow, you will be embarking on an extraordinary and meaningful path in life. It’s never too late, even if it’s your first time, and NOW is an excellent time!

Sweet or White?…Potatoes That Is!

Should you take potatoes out of your diet?

I am a huge fan of the potato, and my favorite is the white potato. It is my cheat food or part of my cheat meal of the ever tasty french fries. Working in the fitness industry for over 15 years and adjusting my diet pretty much for about as long to meet my activity or training and digestion, I still see that potatoes, primarily white, get a bad rap.

This is not to say that I do to like sweet potatoes. I like sweet potatoes when prepared in a way that makes them not the right choice compared to the white potato. I love sweet potatoes and their cousin’s candied yams sweet potato pie, and mashed sweet potatoes. Add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, etc., and it has become an entity all its own. LOL! I even fell for the half-truth that sweet potatoes are a better choice and taste the same such as sweet potatoes french fries and baked sweet potato. NO, it does not! I will be the first to say it is not sweet enough like a pie or fat enough like white potato french fries. I do not mind eating healthier and white potatoes may have more carbs, but if I can’t have white potatoes and I did not care for sweet potatoes in the same way, I stopped eating potatoes. Too bad, my carvings did not stop eating me!

I did some follow up research to see what would work best for my body, and I missed potatoes. My stance will still be that the Sweet Potato is a better choice for those diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and practicing a low-calorie diet. Sweet and White potatoes are very high in carbs and sit very high on the glycemic index, but white potatoes tend to have more protein and make damn good french fries! LOL!

So, I would suggest making both sweet and white potatoes (about a cupped handful) a part of your diet but not every day. We can make a potato unhealthy with sugars, butter, sour cream, cinnamon, marshmallows, cheese, bacon, etc. That plain potato (white or sweet) can then take on a meal of its own.

So I’ll eat sweet potatoes/yams on holidays and with an occasional jerk chicken dinner. I will continue to enjoy white potatoes, fried, baked, mashed, and boiled, but still on occasion, knowing that they aren’t bad for me. Do what works best for you and as always do your research.
